7 min read

The winners of this year’s PiNCAMP Awards have been announced. The winners of Europe’s most important camping award were announced at the PiNCAMP Gala in Stuttgart on Friday evening. Uwe Frers, Managing Director of PiNCAMP (https://www.pincamp.de), emphasized the importance of the PiNCAMP Awards for the camping industry: “This award is as important for the camping industry as the Oscars are for the film industry. With the PiNCAMP Awards, we are honoring the trendsetters of the European camping industry.” An international committee of ten camping experts had previously selected the winners and nominees of the PiNCAMP Awards from hundreds of proposals from the camping industry. In addition, Nina Garvelink from the Netherlands was honored with the Young Talent Award and camping pioneer Roger Pla from France, another personality from the European camping industry, was inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Young Talent: Nina Garvelink

The Young Talent Award is presented by PiNCAMP in collaboration with Jong Recron. Jong Recron is the young talent organization of HISWA-RECRON, the Dutch business association for water sports and leisure companies. This award recognizes young people up to the age of 35 who excel in the camping industry. This year, the Young Talent Award goes to the manager of “Recreatieparc De Achterste Hoef” in the Netherlands, Nina Garvelink. When she was just in her early twenties, she took over the family business “De Achterste Hoef” after the untimely death of her father. Together with her uncle and siblings, she developed her 4.5-star camping company into one of the leading recreation parks in the Netherlands and is heavily involved in the training and further education of employees in the camping and leisure sector.

Well deserved: Roger Pla in the Hall of Fame

The highlight of the award ceremony was the induction of French camping pioneer Roger Pla into the Hall of Fame. In his laudatory speech, Uwe Frers paid tribute to Roger Pla’s lifetime achievements and his services to the development of camping tourism. His courageous decision to transfer his Le Brasilia campsite to a foundation despite offers worth millions to buy it, thus saving the company from being taken over by investors and safeguarding the jobs of its 150 employees, received special recognition.
