If you run a campsite, you know how important it is to create an environment that offers both relaxation and fun for your guests. Families with children in particular are looking for a campsite with plenty to do on-site. Playground equipment therefore plays an important role. But what type of playground equipment is best for a campsite? Wickey is happy to share some tips about the best playground equipment for your campsite.
- Safety First: Choose Durable and Certified Products
When it comes to playground equipment for a campsite, safety is always the top priority. You want children to be able to enjoy themselves without worry. Always choose equipment that is certified according to the European standard EN1176 and made from durable materials that can withstand rough handling, such as 19mm HDPE panels or pressure-treated wood, both resistant to heavy use and weather conditions.
- Climbing Equipment for Energetic Children
Climbing structures are a great choice for the most energetic children at your campsite. The great thing is that even children who have outgrown the “play phase” can still have a blast with a challenging play structure. Climbing equipment not only helps children develop fine motor skills, but it’s also great for building confidence. Climbing just a little higher, or bridging just that one gap… A climbing frame or wall offers tons of entertainment for all ages, especially since it includes many basic calisthenics elements. A climbing structure can thus be used intensively throughout the day.
- Swings for All Ages
Swings are always a hit! They’re simple to set up but offer lots of fun for all ages. Since swinging is one of the first new experiences for young children, it may be helpful to have a baby seat on one of the swings. A tyre seat provides more grip on the seating surface and is better suited for children starting to swing on their own.
- Slides for Action and Fun
Slides are a timeless classic. They offer lots of fun, especially when combined with a climbing structure or play tower. A slide made of HDPE panels is ideal for a campsite, as the material is resistant to rain and heavy use. The taller the slide, the more spectacular of course, though do note that for slides above 1.49 m you’ll need to invest in additional impact-absorbing ground material!
- Roundabouts or Carousels for Larger Groups
A carousel is a super fun play element because it quickly encourages group play and cooperation. Make sure the carousel is firmly anchored and suitable for multiple children at once. The area around the carousel must be free of obstacles for at least 2 meters! Check occasionally to ensure the carousel is still completely level to avoid excessive bearing wear. Sand is a cheap fall protection material but may not be the best combination with the carousel’s rotating parts.
- Multifunctional Play Structures
Lastly, if space is limited or if you want to create a visually impressive play area, we recommend multifunctional play structures. These offer multiple play options in a single piece of equipment and are fun for everyone. Think of a combination of climbing, swinging, and sliding, with an integrated sandbox! Wickey PRO offers carefully designed combinations for all age groups, from toddlers in the toddler range to parkour-style structures for teens, with more calisthenics-inspired elements.
