How campsites can make even better use of digitalisation for themselves
Learn exciting facts here from our free webinar offer for German-speaking camping entrepreneurs. So you too can look forward to the 2023 season well prepared.
Here is the summary of the webinar kick-off with Uwe Frers and Theo Ullrich:
Camping boom? Only about one in five German campsites is fully booked in 2022
This is what Uwe Frers reports with reference to an internal member survey of the BVCD, the Federal Association of the Camping Industry in Germany.
Germany ranks last in terms of online bookability
According to Frers, only 10% of the German campsites on PiNCAMP can be booked online. This puts Germany in last place among 15 top camping destination countries on PiNCAMP.
Not being bookable online – that means being less visible
Frers makes it clear that it is also to the detriment of visibility if a campsite is not bookable online: “Many PiNCAMP users specifically search for online availability. Then, campsites from other countries that can be booked online are often prominently displayed and booked.
In 2023, competition between campsites and countries will increase
In addition, cost pressure is increasing. Rising energy costs are causing problems for campsites and potential guests. In addition, there is a shortage of skilled workers and rising personnel costs.
Decline in bookings and shorter length of stay
According to Frers, demand for autumn bookings is already cautious: bookings and length of stay are about 15 % below last year’s figures.
Getting through the crises better – with more digitalisation
Frers and Ullrich show solutions for what campsites can achieve with online bookability:
- Increase visibility
Be bookable online – and thus be found on PiNCAMP even as a small site - Reduce costs
Optimise processes (less e-mail and telephone enquiries), team can concentrate on guests and service - Increase occupancy
Fill gaps between two bookings and improve occupancy in low season - Increase prices
Maintain prices dynamically and thus optimise turnover with new customers. Because camping in Germany is “too cheap”! Among the top 15 countries, Germany ranks 13th in terms of comparative price, although it scores well in terms of quality with an average of 3.2 stars in the ADAC classification.
