Camping boom – German record figures in summer 2024
Camping in Germany continues to boom.
For example, the Federal Statistical Office reports a new record number in Germany: In August 2024, German campsites counted 9.7 million overnight stays. The sector thus even surpassed the previous record of 9.5 million overnight stays. This was in August of the “Corona summer” 2022 when camping was particularly popular.
Things are also looking good for the entire 2024 season
The record from 2023, when German campsites reported 42.3 million overnight stays for the entire year, could be surpassed in 2024 – especially if the weather cooperates in the fall.
Positive indicators for continuing camping boom
There is some evidence that the high numbers are not a one-hit wonder: More guests are flocking to national and international campsites and pitches. According to Caravaning
Industrie Verband e.V., almost 67,700 new leisure vehicles were registered in Germany alone from January to July 2024. This is 7.2% more than in the same period last year. With around 52,700 new registrations (+9.8%),
motorhomes remain the growth driver. With 14,957 new registrations from January to July 2024, caravans reached around the previous year’s level.
