Berlin, 03.11.2022 – PiNCAMP, the ADAC camping portal, has analyzed the usage behavior of German campers at https://www.pincamp.de*. Based on the campsite page views in comparison with the user ratings, PiNCAMP publishes the top 100 of the most popular campsites in Germany and Europe again this year. The result of the study: Italian and Croatian campsites are once again very popular with German campers, Croatia also provides the new leader in the ranking of the most popular campsites with Camping Park Umag.
Croatia and Italy dominate the European top list; Camping Park Umag new leader
This year, people were largely allowed to travel as they did before the pandemic, which is clearly reflected in the demand for camping destinations. The southern European camping strongholds of Italy and Croatia dominate the European rankings this year, pushing German campsites out of the top list. With Camping Park Umag, Croatia also provides the new front-runner. The popular site in Istria jumps from 34th place to the top of the ranking, followed by the Italian ADAC super site Villaggio Turistico Internazionale, which makes up a whole 66 places. Last year’s winner, Camping- und Ferienpark Wulfener Hals, remains the most sought-after German campsite and lands in third place in the international top list. With Südsee-Camp, another German campsite makes it into the European top 10. 32 campsites enter the European ranking for the first time, with the majority coming from Italy and Croatia.

Online bookability decisive criterion for campers when choosing a campsite
In addition to quality and location, the online bookability of a campsite has developed as a decisive factor among campers for choosing a campsite. The pandemic has changed the booking behavior of campers and digital booking forms are becoming increasingly popular with both guests and campsite operators. Uwe Frers, managing director of PiNCAMP: “Campsites that make their free capacities available for booking directly online are searched for and found much more frequently by PiNCAMP users. For campsites that still rely on traditional communication channels such as e-mail or telephone, the inquiries decrease significantly. Against the backdrop of scarce pitch capacity, we are seeing a rapid increase in requests for online bookable campsites.”
